Client and event overview
A festival Box Office is rarely just somewhere to collect a wristband. It’s where ticketing queries land. Where accreditation problems need solving. Where unusual circumstances appear. And where thousands of excited festival-goers need problems fixed before they can get through the gates. At Ethical Staffing, Festival Box Office Management has become an increasingly important part of the operational support we provide at festivals across the UK. Central to that is having experienced, versatile staff who can understand the systems in front of them, communicate brilliantly with customers and adapt when something unexpected happens. Because if there’s one thing we’ve learnt from festival Box Offices: No two queries are ever quite the same.
Experience Matters at the Box Office
Great festival Box Office staff need to understand systems, but they also need to understand people.
Someone might have the wrong ticket. Their details might not match. A wristband might need replacing. They could be working, performing, trading or arriving under circumstances that don't fit neatly into the standard process.
That’s why versatility matters.
We select experienced event professionals who are comfortable working in fast-paced environments, learning different ticketing systems and taking the initiative when required.
They’re not simply there to scan a ticket. They’re there to solve problems and keep the wider operation moving.
Box Office Management at Boomtown
At Boomtown Festival, our teams supported Box Office operations across the festival gates, working within an event welcoming tens of thousands of people.
Our staff worked with ticketing provider Kaboodle, supporting customer queries, troubleshooting problems and helping resolve issues across a busy arrival operation.
With multiple gates, different ticket types and a huge variety of people arriving on site, good communication between the Box Office, gate teams and wider festival operation was essential.
Our wider teams also supported gates and cashless operations at Boomtown, giving us an understanding of how each part of the arrival experience connected.
The Outcome
Growing Our Role at Shambala Our relationship with Shambala Festival goes back years through our sister company, My Cause UK, whose volunteers have long supported the festival gates. In 2026, that partnership grew when Ethical Staffing took on Box Office Management. Our team worked with Humanitix and alongside FGH Security and the wider Shambala operation. Again, having versatile staff was key. Box Office teams needed to combine confident customer service with ticketing knowledge, problem-solving and an understanding of the wider gate operation. For a festival we already knew so well, it felt like a natural next step. The People Behind the Systems Festival ticketing technology has come a long way. But however good the system is, festivals still need experienced people who can use it confidently, communicate clearly and know what to do when something doesn't go to plan. That's why we see Box Office staffing as an operational role, not simply a customer service one. Our approach is to provide experienced and versatile teams who can learn different systems, understand the wider operation and adapt to the realities of a live festival environment. From Boomtown to Shambala, we're proud to provide Box Office teams capable of keeping their heads when the queues build and finding solutions when the unusual queries arrive. Because before someone can enjoy the festival, someone has to get them through the front door.
