Client and event overview
Some events don't just take place in a city — they're part of its fabric. St Pauls Carnival is one of them. Our event staff were honoured to take to the streets of our home city, with 20 route marshals helping keep the Carnival's three-hour procession moving safely through St Pauls. For a Bristol-based team, this one meant a lot.
A Celebration at the Heart of Bristol
St Pauls Carnival has been bringing people together since 1968, when members of Bristol's African-Caribbean community created a celebration of culture and community in the face of racial discrimination.
Today, Carnival fills St Pauls with music, dance, costumes, food and sound systems, continuing a cultural legacy that has helped shape Bristol.
Its history is intertwined with the story of St Pauls and Bristol's African-Caribbean community, including the landmark Bristol Bus Boycott.
Getting to play even a small part in that story is something we're incredibly proud of.
Keeping Carnival Moving
Our route marshals worked across the neighbourhood's busy streets, supporting the movement of participants and thousands of spectators throughout the procession.
The route takes place amongst some distinctive corners of the city, including the historic Portland and Brunswick Square area.
Good event stewarding here isn't about dampening the energy — it's about helping it flow.
Our teams needed to stay alert, communicate clearly and respond to changing crowds while allowing Carnival to remain exactly what it should be: loud, joyful and unmistakably Bristol.
The Outcome

St Pauls Carnival is a Bristol institution, and the marshals’ job was to support it, not take it over. If your procession, carnival or street event needs that kind of team, tell us the route.
