Client and event overview
There are few events that showcase our home city quite like Bristol Light Festival. For several years, Ethical Staffing has proudly worked alongside Bristol BID to provide event stewarding teams across the festival, helping thousands of visitors explore spectacular light installations throughout Bristol city centre. As a Bristol-based event staffing supplier, it’s a partnership that means a lot to us. Each winter, we get to watch familiar streets, landmarks and public spaces completely transform through the work of local, national and international artists.
Lighting Up Our Home City
Since launching in 2020, Bristol Light Festival has brought an incredible collection of artworks to the city.
Our teams have stewarded alongside installations including PULSE by This is Loop, a 40-metre-long audio-visual sculpture, and Real Hackney Dave’s unmistakable Bristol Is Always A Good Idea.
More recent editions have brought everything from Our Beating Heart by Studio Vertigo to Air Giants’ enormous The Cat That Slept For A Thousand Years at Cascade Steps.
The festival has also continued to explore more of Bristol. Installations have appeared everywhere from Cabot Circus and College Green to Redcliffe Caves, with local organisations including Cameron Balloons contributing to the programme.
Getting to experience some of Bristol’s most creative public art from one of the best seats in the house is certainly one of the perks of the job.
Event Stewarding With Visitor Experience at Its Heart
With installations spread across busy city-centre locations, event stewards play an important part in helping the festival run smoothly.
Our teams support crowd movement around popular artworks, provide directions and festival information, and help visitors navigate the wider trail.
At its busiest, Bristol Light Festival has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors across its ten-day programme, meaning our staff need to combine effective crowd management with the friendly, approachable visitor experience expected from a free public event.
It’s exactly the approach we bring to our wider Illuminations & Light Trails Staffing work, including Luxmuralis at Bristol Cathedral and Longleat’s Festival of Light.
The Outcome
Growing Our Partnership With Bristol BID Perhaps what we’re most proud of is how our relationship with Bristol BID has grown beyond one event. Alongside Bristol Light Festival, our teams have supported other free events bringing people into the heart of the city, including Old City Sounds. We’re passionate about the role these events play in making culture accessible, supporting Bristol’s city centre and giving people another reason to experience everything our home city has to offer. After several years of Bristol Light Festival, seeing our teams return each winter is something we never take for granted. “Huge thanks to all of your team, they were great this year, a real asset to the event and a pleasure to work!” — Hannah, Bristol Light Festival Events Manager We’re proud to keep playing our part in lighting up Bristol.
